I believe that music is inherent to life. Or maybe it’s that life itself is kind of musical – there is a rhythm in the movement of a cell and living things, endowed with their own rhythm and their own agency to affect the world around them, often seem inclined to make noises that sound suspiciously like music to my ears.
According to Walt Whitman, our thin veneer of individuality may cover multitudes within. We all contain multitudes. As an eclectic, multi-instrumentalist … well, my multitudes tend towards the musical.
Your Human Host is an attempt to contain those multitudes in a single place, and provide them with a single purpose, and if that’s too pretentious for you, then it’s basically a place for me to showcase my stuff as well as a domain name that hasn’t already been claimed. But let’s get back to those multitudes and pretensions.
What is this “hivemind” to which you have been welcomed? In standard internet parlance, the hivemind would refer to the internet itself or perhaps just the social media site on which the reference occurs. As you may have already inferred, this hivemind is a bit different as it exists entirely within myself. Conflicting musical genres, competing ideologies and neurotic personalities, all jockeying for position within my own self, and you get a front row seat.
So get some popcorn, check it out and marvel at the contradictions and inconsistencies.
Americana string band music paired with Lovecraftian imagery? Why not? Bluegrass instruments run through wild effects pedals? Hell, yeah.
Welcome to the hivemind. Please enjoy your stay.
Your host,
Rex
